Job Summary:
The Workshop Controller is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the automotive workshop, ensuring efficient workflow, timely vehicle repair and maintenance, and maintaining the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction. This role bridges the gap between the service advisors, technicians, and management, ensuring that work is scheduled, completed, and delivered to standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and manage the daily workload of the workshop.
  • Allocate jobs to technicians based on skill level, efficiency, and availability.
  • Monitor progress of repairs and service, ensuring deadlines are met and quality is maintained.
  • Perform quality checks on completed work before vehicles are released to customers.
  • Communicate effectively with service advisors to provide job updates and address customer concerns.
  • Ensure all work is carried out according to manufacturer standards and workshop procedures.
  • Support and motivate the technician team to meet productivity and efficiency targets.
  • Oversee workshop tools and equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, hours used, and parts consumed.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Liaise with parts department to ensure timely availability of required parts.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide training or support as needed for workshop staff.
  • Assist in diagnosing complex vehicle issues where necessary.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar Workshop Controller, Foreman, or Senior Technician role.
  • Technical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in automotive maintenance and repair).
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • In-depth understanding of automotive systems and repair processes.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage time effectively.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with workshop management systems (e.g., Kerridge, CDK, Autoline).
  • A full and valid driver’s license.
